Celebrate Lunar New Year with the Community

Join us in spreading festive joy and building meaningful connections this Lunar New Year! This programme offers HKU students with opportunities to share festive cheer and strengthen community bonds. Let’s celebrate together and make this Lunar New Year unforgettable!

Session 1: Celebrate with the Elderly
Date: 31 January 2026 (Saturday)
Time: 9:00 am – 12:30 pm
Venue: Mong Kok Kai Fong Association Limited Chan Hing Social Service Centre
Tasks and Responsibilities: Manage game booths, lead small groups, and assist elderly participants in activities.
Quota: 30 volunteers
Language Requirement: Fluent Cantonese required


Session 2: Poon Choi Gathering at Ping Shek Estate
Date: 7 February 2026 (Saturday)
Time: 10:00 am – 2:30 pm
Venue: Ping Shek Estate, Kowloon
Tasks and Responsibilities: Celebrate with residents over a traditional Poon Choi lunch, faciliate table games, and help maintain order and logistics.
Quota: 40 volunteers
Language Requirement: Fluent Cantonese required (a few quota is available for non-Cantonese speaking international students who are interested. They will be paired up with Cantonese-speaking students.)

Note: No special dietary arrangements will be provided for participants in this event.

About Poon Choi:
Poon Choi (盆菜) is a traditional Cantonese communal dish enjoyed during festivals and celebrations. Served in a large basin, it features layered ingredients—from vegetables and tofu at the bottom to premium items like pork, chicken, and seafood on top—symbolizing abundance and unity. This event is part of The HKFYG’s Neighbourhold First Activity Series, aimed at fostering community spirit and exchange.
