Foster Cultural Diversity and Build Intercultural Bonds
Hong Kong is home to a vibrant and diverse community of ethnic minorities, making up approximately 8% of the city’s population. The largest groups include Filipinos, Indonesians, and South Asians such as Indians, Nepalese, and Pakistanis. Many ethnic minorities have been rooted in Hong Kong for generations, with a significant number of younger members born and raised locally.
HOPE in Action is a community engagement initiative dedicated to fostering meaningful connections and promoting cultural understanding among Hong Kong’s diverse communities. Through engaging, interactive events, the programme advocates for social harmony, celebrates cultural diversity, and strengthens intercultural understanding among participants.
Target Beneficiaries: Over 80 ethnic minority members in Hong Kong
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Engage with ethnic minority children, families and elderlies through fun, interactive activities that foster connection and enjoyment
- Support event operations to ensure smooth logistics, safety, and a positive experience for all participants
- Promote social inclusion and intercultural understanding within the wider community
Event Details (All activities are conducted in English):

| 2 | 20/9/2026 (Sun) 10:30am – 1pm | Oreo Mooncake Parent-Child Activity | Assist staff in running the activity and making Oreo mooncakes with ethnic minority parents and children |
| 3 | 31/10/2026 (Sat) 10am – 5pm | Trick or Treat Activity (Lunch provided) | Assist staff in running the activity |
| 4 | 8/11/2026 (Sun) 10am – 1pm | Diwali DIY Candle Making Parent-Child Activity | Learn and assist in making candles with ethnic minority families |
| 5 | 19/12/2026 (Sat) 10am – 2pm | Elderly Fun Games Day (Light refreshments provided) | Assist staff in operating games and engaging elderly participants |
Qualities We are Looking For:
- Punctual, active, and outgoing.
- Mature, Independent and responsible.
- Confident in communicating effectively in English (as all activities are conducted in English)

Spots are limited, so act fast! Priority is given to undergraduate students. Shortlisted students will be invited for an interview on 15 September, 2026 (Tue). Participants are required to join a briefing session in HKU from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm on 17 Sep (Thu).
